Terms of Service

Last updated 2026-05-11

1. Who you're contracting with

When you use this site you enter into an agreement with the natural person operating Talehopper (intended to register as a Finnish sole trader (toiminimi) or another business form before paid tours go live), established in Helsinki, Finland (referred to as “Talehopper”, “we”, “us” in these Terms). Talehopper is currently in pre-launch — no purchase contract is being concluded on this site today. The full legal name and Y-tunnus (or the equivalent identifier of whichever business form is finally registered) will appear in the footer Impressum the moment registration completes; in the meantime they are available on request from privacy@talehopper.app. No buyer purchases are processed until registration is complete and Stripe live keys are activated.

2. What we sell

Talehopper sells digital audio walking tours of Helsinki. A tour is a sequence of GPS-anchored stops with English-language audio and accompanying transcripts, designed to be followed at your own pace on a smartphone. Tours are delivered as streaming audio with a download-for-offline option once the playback flow ships in a future release.

3. Eligibility and account

You must be at least 16 years old to purchase a tour. By signing in or completing checkout you confirm that the information you provide (email address, payment details handled by Stripe) is accurate and that you have the right to use the payment method.

4. Purchase, pricing, payment

Prices are shown on each tour's page in euros (EUR) including any applicable VAT. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay. Payment is processed by Stripe Payments Europe Ltd; your card number, CVC, and full billing address are not visible to us. The contract is formed when Stripe confirms a successful payment and we grant you access to the purchased tour.

5. Right of withdrawal & refunds

Under EU consumer law (Directive 2011/83/EU on consumer rights, as implemented by the Finnish Consumer Protection Act Kuluttajansuojalaki 38/1978 Chapter 6), you generally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract.

For digital content delivered without a physical medium, the right of withdrawal is lost once performance has begun with your express prior consent and acknowledgement that you lose your withdrawal right. Talehoppertreats “performance” as starting the moment you stream or download any audio file from a tour. Until that point — i.e. you have purchased a tour but not yet started listening — you may request a full refund within 14 days.

Our full Refund Policy, including how to ask for a refund and when goodwill exceptions apply, is at /refund-policy.

6. Acceptable use

The audio, transcripts, route plans, and images on Talehopper are licensed to you for personal, non-commercial use. You may not:

  • redistribute, resell, mirror, or upload tour audio or transcripts anywhere else;
  • scrape the site to build a competing product or train a model without our written permission (allowed AI engines are listed in /robots.txt);
  • use the service in a way that disrupts other users or our infrastructure (rate limiting, abusive crawling, etc).

7. Intellectual property

We retain ownership of all tour content (audio, transcripts, route design, photography) and the Talehopper brand. Some tours feature third-party photographs or quotations under licence; their credits are listed inside the tour. Your purchase grants you the personal listening licence described in Section 6 — not ownership.

8. Outdoor activity disclaimer

Audio walking tours take place in public outdoor space. You are responsible for your own safety and for following local traffic laws and posted signage. Talehopperis not liable for personal injury, property damage, weather conditions, route closures, or changes to the urban environment that occur after a tour's publication. Headphones can mask traffic sounds — please remain aware of your surroundings.

9. Availability

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Maintenance windows, third-party outages (Stripe, Supabase, Vercel), or force-majeure events may cause temporary unavailability. Where an outage prevents you from listening to a tour you have purchased, contact support@talehopper.app and we will make it right.

10. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Finnish consumer law and the GDPR, our total liability for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the amount you paid for the relevant tour in the 12 months preceding the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits your statutory consumer rights, your right to refund under Finnish or EU consumer protection law, or our liability for gross negligence or intentional wrongdoing.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms when our service changes (for example, when the offline playback flow launches in Phase 5). Material changes are dated above and announced via the email subscriber list. Continued use of the site after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

12. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the law of Finland, without prejudice to mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence in the EU. Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Finland. As an EU consumer you may also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform (ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr).
